The original Jurassic Park is returning to theaters

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

Do you remember 1993? vaguely. You know what I do remember about 1993? Jurassic Park! The movie never escaped my memory for a second and now we can revisit those wonderful moments of the film in a theater. Oh, and it’s also making the transition into the 3rd dimension.

…Variety’s Jeff Sneider reports that Jurassic Park is set for a 3D re-release on July 19th, 2013. That weekend is currently only home to the DreamWorks Animation film Turbo, but it’s also a couple weeks after Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse hits theaters. Steve (the Collider one) spoke with producer Kathleen Kennedy about the possible 3D re-release of Jurassic Park back in December. At the time she said they only wanted to do the 3D conversion if they could do it right, with Kennedy clarifying that that means Spielberg and director of photography Janusz Kaminski would be sitting down and evaluating the film frame-by-frame…

Can’t. Stop. Salivating.

Jurassic Park is one of my all-time favorite films and the idea of getting the film back in theaters and seeing that Tyrannosaur chase that truck in 3D while reading “Objects in mirror are close than they appear” is too tantilizing to dismiss. There are just too many scenes that I can envision that could be re-tooled to really take advantage of the medium and really deliver a familiar film with a brand new experience. Still. Can’t. Stop. Salivating.

The truck chase scene is just one of many that can be enhanced. If I could think straight I’d be able to rattle off a dozen more. Which ones am I forgetting?

Erik edit: Kitchen scene with the raptors of course!

I’ll be first in line at my local theatre. This is definitely the first 3D rerelease I’m genuinely excited about. Can’t wait for The Matrix. Or good, original movies, but that’s… who wants that?
