Steve Carell going for Dogs of Babel

— Posted by The "Superior" Anthony

Steve Carell has the attention of millions in the palm of his hands as he’s preparing to exit his hit television show “the Office” and devote his full attention to his film career. Moviefone is reporting that one of the many films that are currently penciled into his schedule is based on the novel “Dogs of Babel”.

The book follows the story of Paul Iverson, a linguistics professor who returns home one day to find his wife dead in their backyard. Police rule her death an accident, but Paul is not quite sure. The only witness to her death is their dog Lorelei. In Paul’s grief-stricken search for answers, he endeavors to teach Lorelei to talk in the hopes that he can uncover what happened the day his wife died.” You can practically hear the sniffles of viewers already…

I hadn’t fully considered the idea of Carell going the dramatic route but I guess anything is possible. We’ve seen a few fantastic dramatic performances from many that have a history in comedy including Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, Eddie Murphy, and Adam Sandler. I like the idea of him exploring these other genre’s but in the back of my mind I hope that it doesn’t lead to him abandoning comedy altogether.

I still haven’t seen the ‘home-run’ comedy from Carell that has completely won me over to the idea of him leaving the Office, and I’m not really interested in the premise of this film, but I guess it’s his stab at going for an Oscar and will try to remain optimistic.

They say comedy is the hardest thing to do. Perhaps it’s easier for a comedic actor to do drama than the other way around.

No Home Run for Carell?!? Have you seen The 40 Year Old Virgin?

More like Carrell and “company” (as in he kept a good company of actually funny actors in that one)

40yr old was the only thing he’s in that I can watch more than once.

I don’t think I could take “Man tries to teach his dog to speak to solve a murder” seriously with Carell starring. Although I probably couldn’t take it seriously with even a more serious actor in the role.

Anything is possible. I would never have thought that Will Ferrell could pull off a serious role, but I regard his performance in Stranger than Fiction hands down the best thing he’s ever done, and one of my favorite movies of all time. Who’s to say that Steve Carell can’t do the same?

let us not forget winters passing in which Ferrell also rocks out with his… out.
